SSS Tonight MFs!

Going to Boz tonight for the show. Got some SSS Pick of the Week, Vic Chesnutt, Boulder and Freddie Hubbard on tap. Got a request?- then get a hold of me. Going to try to remember to grab the files for the show and either post them as a podcast or just links for download. We’ll see how smart I am tomorrow.

SSS Pick of the Week

I love cranking the surround system and making my house shake.

Listening to a lot of soundscapes since I got the new Eleh LPs. So I went digging around for more. One of my favorite places to check out cool tunes is over at Hammer Smashed Jazz. Beau knows his shit and has a great eye for really cool artwork and design. I picked out Fermentae/Ziz split recommended over at HMJ. Digging it a lot. Check out his blog because he supports cool shit.

So that’s my pick of the week. The Fermentae/Ziz split. Dark, droning, ambient stuff. As always, to be played loud.

Threads

Here’s a band who decided to get back together and do it without living off past glory (unlike My Bloody Valentine, Pixies, Jane’s Addiction and a handful of other lame ass retreads). Portishead not only managed to make an album that holds up with the old stuff, they had the guts to try something different.

“Threads”, my favorite track off of Third.

RIP Randy Cain

I’m a sucker for Philly soul. The Delfonics were bad ass. Here’s a cut in memory of Randy.

Another Easter Gem

They’re walking by the night
The moon has frozen blue
Long black coats a shelter for the rain
Their load must get through

Now bats are leaving their trees
They’re joining the call
Seven satanic Hell preachers
Heading for the hall

Bringing the blood of a newborn child
Got to succeed, if not it’s Satan’s fall

Home… Come home
Evil messengers with blood stained wings
Home… Come home
Home… Come home

Is it Satan’s fall?

No… It’s Satan’s call

Craniums high on stakes
It’s Satan’s epigraph
Something you can’t erase… 666
They call him the beast

Use your demon eyes, uncover the disguise
Time is out.. Yeah, I don’t need your god
Oh the law of Satan
Pray and obey it forever
Oh the law of Satan

Innocent lovers…it’s a lie

Iron fists won’t do no good against the evil eyes
Of seven holy Hell preachers, don’t you even try
Now they cross the river Styx and see the castle rise
So high

Waiting on the other shore for Charon to arrive
A shape with horns and glowing eyes, Satan’s still alive
He receives the sacrifice with evil laughs and pride
You better escape, you’ve got to escape
You cannot escape

Happy Fucking Easter

I despise Xtian money cults. I’m sure Jesus didn’t come back for this shit. I’ve no doubt that if the Savior is the true Son of God he’s up there listening to Funeral Mist too.

Thanks for your soul and please leave your wallet on the altar on your way out.

Here’s for all the money worshipping mega-churches. May you fucking rot.

Thanks to Sylvan for turning me on to this album. I have Maranatha but it’s not in the same league as Salvation.

How Low Can You Go?

If you’re into minimalist drone compositions that sometimes feature tones too low for human hearing then this is the stuff for you.

I picked these up from Important Records recently. Good stuff if you like to zone out to some crazy tones. They have a few other releases Floating Frequencies/Intuitive Synthesis Vols 1-3, Homage to the Sine Wave and a couple splits. One with Sun Circle the other with Pauline Oliveros. All of which are out of print and getting increasingly hard to find.

You can find a few mp3 clips on the Important website but they don’t really do the sound justice. This music is meant to be played LOUD.

SSS Pick of the Week

Best Vic album.

Dynamically diverse and Vic is on the top of his game lyrically. Gather your “pack of necrophiliacs” and give this album a spin. Play it loud.

Here’s some live Vic with “Debriefing”.

Pay Up Sucker

Some fool, I’ll call him Joff, bet me a grand I couldn’t hum a single Jandek song. I don’t expect him to pay but when I make my payment on a previous bet I’m going to make him sing this song to me. Probably my favorite Jandek song.

“Nancy Sings”

Sittin’ On Top of the World

Bob Dylan’s Good As I Been To You and it’s sister album World Gone Wrong laid the foundation for Bob’s late career renaissance and reconnected Bob with his roots. Containing folk, blues and traditional songs, the albums were recorded in Bob’s Malibu home studio with just an acoustic guitar, harmonica and vocals. Highly recommended shit if you don’t have these already.

Here’s the “Sittin’ On Top of the World” from Good As I Been To You.
