Is It A Crime?

Talk about SSS! I listened to Sade’s Greatest Hits on the cruise to Bozeman and on the way back home. I swear that she is purposely lulling me with her voice so I die in a fiery wreck.

Of course, Sade Adu’s phenomenal vocals are the centerpiece of every song but her band is slick as shit too. The arrangements are usually pretty simple but the flourishes added to flesh out the songs are outstanding. Whether it’s a distorted guitar line, a drum echo or cool backing vocals it always sounds tight.

The Greatest Hits set is a good overview of the first four Sade albums. The hits are all there–”The Sweetest Taboo”, “Smooth Operator”, “No Ordinary Love” etc. “Is It A Crime” is a killer smoky lounge club tune, “Please Send Me Someone to Love” is a bluesy cut and the rest of the songs are far from filler. “Kiss of Life” and “Love is Stronger Than Pride” are my personal favorites on the set. The 5th album “Lover’s Rock” came after G.H. but it is a solid album as well. Supposedly a new one is due this year and I’d expect it to continue achieving the high standard set by the band.

Here’s “Kiss of Life” from Love Deluxe and Greatest Hits. Do not drive or operate heavy machinery while listening to this song:
