Kill Yourself For Satan!

I’ve been cranking the shit out of some old Dissection lately. Slasher Sylvan turned me on the the first two albums (Yeah, I know. Everyone has been listening to those albums for years. Call me slow). Fucking great shit and lots of killer guitar work. Just stay away from the last album Reinkaos unless you like that Swedish melodic death shit.

Here’s some rippin’ Dissection shit for you.

ZZ Motherfuckin’ Top

I’ve been all about ZZ Top lately. I love the fuck out of Billy Gibbons’ guitar playing. I haven’t had any of their albums in my collection for years. It’s time to fix that problem.

This Is What Not To Do If The Bird Shits On You……

……The Rime….of the Ancient…Mariner!!!!!

Best live album ever.

I’m talking about the real version. Not that bullshit single CD version. It’s got to have the Hammersmith tunes and the long “Running Free”.

“Revelations this one!!!”

C.C., Pick Up That Guitar and Talk To Me!

Two Poison posts in two weeks too much for you? Tough shit.

C.C. fucking rocks and if you don’t think so you can kiss my brown eye.

He’s not technically flashy but he is a whammy bar master with a great ear for melody. For guitar playing he’s as much an influence on me as anybody. Here’s a Poison classic with a sweet C.C. guitar solo set to somebody’s vacation in Paris.

More Shred

I don’t know why I get a kick out of shredder guitar. It’s funny and amazing at the same time. Here’s an old shred classic.

Nitro-Frieght Train

Featuring Jim Gillette, husband of Lita Ford and owner of a 4 octave vocal range on the mic and Michael Angelo Batio on quad axe. If you’re too pussy to handle the entire dose of extreme rocking then just go to the 2:15 mark. That is where it gets in-fucking-tense.

A bonus: Jim Gillette rocks your ass off one on one.

Yngwie Malmsteen & the Rising Hairdo

I love the airbrushed cheeks and the well placed guitar that give the illusion that Yngwie isn’t a pudgy bastard.

Nevertheless, I have a soft spot for the egotistical Paganini worshipper. Maybe it’s because of Yngwie’s scalloped fret Strat or the guy Blessed B and I used to know called Pusfoot who owned the Yngwie guitar but possessed none of the chops. Love him or hate him you’ve got to respect a guy with the physique of a couch potato who still has the sack to wear leather pants in public.

Here’s Yngwie rocking out with the New Japan Philharmonic Orchestra.

Enjoy

A Double Shot of Kozelek

Got the latest Mark Kozelek releases from Caldo Verde yesterday. He’s not really doing anything different from his usual on these releases. More understated, dreamy guitar and vocals from Mr. Kozelek. Which pretty much means that the two discs are damn good.

Lost Verses is the actual release and like the 7 Songs Belfast CD, Find Me, Ruben Olivares is the limited bonus disc you get from ordering direct from the site. I think both with shipping ran me $16.99. Not a bad deal at all.

Lou Reed’s Renaissance

Do people in the general population have any idea that recently Lou Reed has completely gone off the deep end and made some of the most insane albums by any artist of his stature?

Starting with The Raven, a 2-disc spoken word/music set dedicated to Edgar Allan Poe and extending through Live at the Stone with John Zorn and Laurie Anderson, Hudson River Wind Meditations-an album of meditative music for Tai Chi and now Lou Reed’s Metal Machine Trio Lou has decided to give his experimental side some attention. And it kicks ass.

SSS Pick of the Week

LP only. The CD is missing “Willie the Pimp Pt 2″. That’s like cutting one of your legs off. Frank just couldn’t resist fucking with the tapes.

I’m not a huge fan of the Flo & Eddie era Mothers but there is enough jamming on this album to satisfy me. The “Mud Shark” is about as Turtle heavy as it gets with the exception of “Happy Together”. At least there is no “Billy the Mountain” which is practically a long-term investment to listen to. Don’t get me wrong though, it’s a great set. And absolutely essential for a serious Zappa fan.

Dead Man

Sometimes I’m in the mood to hear some killer electric guitar tone. Neil’s “Dead Man” fulfills the requirement. Old Black, the Whizzer and his Fender amp jam out and sometimes accompany Nobody and William Blake talking from parts of the movie. Great stuff. Here’s the acoustic version of the theme song that was left off the soundtrack.
