Maiden North America

One more day until Iron Maiden announce their North American tour dates. I’m super psyched and hope I get a chance to see them. Some friends of mine saw them in Christchurch a year ago and Maiden kicked total ass. I’ve seen them three times, 1986 Somewhere On Tour, 1996 X-Factor tour and the 1999 Ed Hunter Tour aka the return of Bruce.

It’s time man. Gorge or Salt Lake please!

Wimps and Poseurs Leave the Hall!

While bouncing around the internet yesterday I stumbled upon a righteous enclave of metal. Ron Blackwell’s Sudden Death Overtime on WITR 89.7FM out of Rochester, New York. Metal every weekday at 7-9 a.m. EST and also available as a podcast for a 2 hour fix of metal anytime.

You can also check out Ragin’ Ron’s band Crucifist. The metalheads amongst you may recognize the gentleman on bass.

Drawing Down the Moon

One of my favorite black metal albums has been recently re-released on wax. Beherit’s “Drawing Down the Moon” (along with “Oath of Black Blood” and others) is once again affordable in platter form for a short while. You can dig them up at Levykauppa Äx/RecordshopX but I’m pretty sure some U.S. distros will be stocking them as well.

If you love Satan and don’t own Drawing Down the Moon I’m afraid the gates of Hell will not be open for you in the afterlife.

I Am the One

Orgasmatron

The outstretched grasping hand

My image is of agony

My servants rape the land

Pull Over Shithead, This is the Cops!

I’m stuck at home while the kids sleeping but in an alternate universe in my mind I’m tearing it up on the open road.

This is the soundtrack.

Rockbitch

Watched a Rockbitch DVD with a friend. For those who are unaware of this band (like I was until Friday) they were a mostly chick goth/metal band who incorporated a bit of novelty in their act. These girls could engage in sexual activity while playing the music! For example, the guitar player could munch carpet while rocking the riff. I was pretty damn impressed. Much of the music was a goth spin on White Zombie so I guess it’s not so complicated that you couldn’t eat a box and play at the same time. The drummer and bass player were extremely tight so musically they surpassed other shockers like GG, the Mentors or Whitehouse.

Supposedly, the “fucking rock” was an extension of the Pagan religion practiced by the group. A lucky guy could even catch the “golden condom” at a show and be invited backstage to bang the band. They lasted 5 years but eventually the group found it hard to find a venue or even a country that was willing to host a show.

Absurd. Somewhat musically challenged. But hey, these chicks were playing instruments while fucking. That rocks!

Montana Metalfest IV

These Missoula events are always poorly promoted in Bozeman. I knew nothing of this until I saw it at the Montana Musicians site. Wake up promoters!

O.K., I’m done with my mini-rant. Looks like a cool event. I’ll be out in the woods during this deal but it’s a good thing for metal in Montana. You can read all about it at the Demonlily page.

Opeth & Enslaved in Boise 5/11

O.K., not exactly a quick trip to see a concert. But chances are if you live in Montana and you’re into seeing live music then you have driven somewhere out of the way to see a show. Not sure if I’ll be making this one either but I recommend it to those who can.

Skye cracked, contains lots of snow

Got stuck in Great Falls yesterday in a monster storm. Spent the day vegging out in a hotel room but managed to pick up the new Mastodon at Hastings. I listened to it about 4 times in a row on the drive home. Not bad, very similar in style as Blood Mountain but a little shorter. As always, lots of Southern rock inspired guitar licks in the solos and Brann Dallor’s drums rip. Kind of missed having an elephant man song as a finisher. Although maybe it was elephant man stuff……I didn’t really listen to the lyrics. A couple songs stood out for me, especially the 12 minute song at the end “The Last Baron”. Overall, it’s a solid if not spectacular album. If you liked Blood Mountain chances are you’ll dig Crack the Skye.

Update-This album may not have struck me at first but it sure is on heavy rotation on my stereo. I’m looking forward to playing this Friday.
